Kungsängen Church

The original Romanesque style church was built in the early 1200’s. Only the two western vaults in the nave remain from this period. Around 1300, the old chancel and triumphal arch were demolished and the church extended to the east. Roughly 100 years later, the current sacristy with cross vaults was added. During the latter part of the 1400’s came the current porch with cross vaults. Much of the rest of the church also received cross vaults at this time and it was decorated with frescoes.

It had previously been unclear if the walls had been painted, but restoration work in 1994 discovered fragments of the murals though they were covered back over.
