Krapperup Castle

The original castle was constructed between 1314 and 1353. The man who developed it was Mr. Johannes Jonaesson who previously had headquarters at a farm near Brunnby. The main building was a rectangular stone structure containing the lord’s residence and banquet hall around which stone buildings for other purposes (kitchen, storage, etc…) were built. The main structures were fortified with curtain wall, gate tower, moat and drawbridge. Other buildings of stone, brick and half-timber were built outside the fortifications.

During the 1300’s the main industry of the region was focused on cattle. Pasture lands still remain in smaller areas. By the end of the 1300’s, the focus had shifted to grain crops.

During archaeological excavations of the castle courtyard in 1996 and 1997, found parts of the the 1300’s castle.
