St. Olof’s Church Ruin

St. Olof’s church ruin stands in the church yard of St. Mary’s church in the modern town’s eastern outskirts. St. Olof’s is a contemporary with St. Per’s church. Construction was begun around 1100 with the central tower and transept. Next to the ruin is a spring probably associated with the church’s patron, St. Olof. Investigations in summer of 2005, archaeologists found indications of an older stone church deep beneath the foundations of the current ruin.
