Uppland Runestone Nf 56

Rune Translation – ‘Anund had the stone erected in memory of himself in his lifetime.’

Additional Info – The name Anund was one of the most common men’s names during the Viking period. Nor was it unusual for a someone to raise a stone after themselves. A famous chieftain by the name of Jarlabanke in Täby erected at least 5 stones in memory of himself during his lifetime. The runes on this stone are most probably carved by the runemaster Fot who was active in the area in the middle of the 1000’s AD. The stone was discovered in 1956 as a foundation stone in St. Lars church ruin’s north wall. It had been broken into six pieces.
