Old Brunn Church Ruins

Translated from http://www.wadbring.com – ‘On a slope down towards the Lake Åsunden, a few kilometers west of Ulricehamn rests 1100’s church in Brunn. At the cemetery, according to a sign on the site to be around 13,000 tombs, which if true (which seems unlikely) shows the site was used as a burial ground long before the church was built. The porch is said to have appeared as late as the year 1808. In 1697, the church was extended 12 cubits east. In 1698, the window appear and in 1699 was a grandstand.

The church was in use right up until the consecration of the new church on a nearby hill after which, the old church was left to ruin.

A restoration was carried out in 1933 and has recently been supplimented with additional bracing to prevent the choir section from falling.

The old church’s pulpit and baptismal font are preserved in the new as well as the old church’s door and various other items.’
