Skerike Church

The oldest parts of this church date to the early Middle Ages. It began as a Romanesque church of granite in the 1100’s though it is highly likely it was predated by a wooden church. During the 1300’s it was converted into the Gothic style with star vaults installed in the 1400’s. In 1752 a porch was added on the south. A new tower was erected in 1871 after the old one was demolished due to its foundations resting on unstable ground.
