Terii’s Cycling Babble

Perfectly Cool Autumn Day! » 10-06 a Lillhärad Kyrka

Lillhärad Church

Housed within this unassuming little building is a fragment of a baptismal font from the 1100’s which indicates the likelihood of a previous church on this site from the same era. Most likely it was built of wood and later replaced by a stone church which then would have seen many renovations through the centuries. In 1840, fire ravaged the church and the vaults collapsed. In 1848 – 1849, the church was rebuilt on the walls of the old. The remaining stone walls were built in with brick. The new roof was flatter than the previous. Restoration in 1954-1955 presented the church with a wooden barrel vault ceiling.
