Västerljung Church

The oldest wall sections of this church date from the 1100’s and 1200’s. Over the passing centuries, the exterior has undergone a number of renovations. The last happened in 1889 when it received the tower with a crown of brick and recessed ‘blind rings’ in a medieval pattern.

1719 brought disaster for the church. The invading Russians ravaged the parish and burned the church. What interior furnishings were saved or recovered from the Russians disappeared without a trace.

In 1959 the runestone was found in the tower foundations.
