Vansö Kyrka is a stone church with the oldest portions built in the end of the 1100’s. Around the year 1300 it was extended eastwards and again in 1450 AD. The tower’s upper part was demolished in 1765, but rebuilt in 1901-1902.

Sometime around the year 1680 the eastern portion of the church began to crack because it had not been built on solid bedrock. In 1682, it was reinforced with two giant diagonal buttresses on the eastern wall.
