Upplands Runestone #358 – Skepptuna

Translation: “Folkmar allowed to be raised this stone after Folkbjörn, his son. He died yet(?) among the Greeks. God help his spirit and soul.

The runestone, dating from the 1000’s, gives witness of the the Vikings’ (taking a guess here) long ranging raids. (More guessing) Folkbjörn was one of those who stood in the Byzantine Emperor’s service: observe the Christian prayer. The stone’s orginal standing place is unknown, but it was mortared into its current location in the foundation stones of the tower in the 1400’s.
