Upplands Runstone #375 – Vidbo Kyrka

Translation: “Sigfast and Ginlög allowed to be raised this stone after Vinaman, their son, and became dead in “Buhi”.”

I had a bit of trouble translating the rest of the sign. Something happened to this stone in the 1600’s. It does say, the name ‘Buhi’ is puzzling though perhaps it is meant to be Boge, a place on the eastern part of Gotland (Sweden’s largest island in the Baltic). Vinaman is such a unique name, it has only been found on this stone. There was something about it being common in England as well as something more about one of three men of legend who followed the missionary Sigfrid to Värend in Småland.

The stone was possibly carved by Åsmund (have seen that runemaster’s name before) and dates to probably about the middle of the 1000’s.
