Granby Grave Field & Village Remains

These are actually among some of the best preserved settlement remains as well as a grave field. This archeological site dates from the late Iron Age up to the Medieval period.

I think that line of stones just behind Loke is the foundations of an old Viking longhouse. There were indications of it during digs. It was 33 meters long and 3 meters wide with splayed walls. The steep pitched roof rested on two lines of poles and was probably thatched. There were other, smaller buildings on terraces beneath the large house. Finds have indicated the buildings were used from the Viking era into the medieval period.
